Birthday Weekend

Alyssa’s parents are going on an 8-week Alaskan vacation in a few weeks and won’t be home for Alyssa or Matt’s (her brother) birthdays. So, we had birthday weekend this past weekend in Du Bois. Alyssa got a nice Canon digital camera and photo printer, and I got fed very well! I love ribs [...]

CodeIgniter - the way to go

Tags: ,

For programmers looking for a rock-solid and flexible codebase, I highly recommend CodeIgniter. I’ve used CI on a number of projects, and can speak firsthand about its flexibility and ease-of-use.
When looking for a starting codebase, I’m always interested in the ‘less is more’ approach. With CI, that’s exactly what you get. I use CodeIgniter [...]

Lesson Learned

When I first started my blog, I hadn’t yet created any WordPress Plugins of my own. So, I modified the source code directly.
Now it’s time to upgrade. Darn.
Note to others: It’s much easier to port your plugin to a future release of WordPress, than dig through the source code to update what you modified many [...]

Goodbye Yosemite, Hello Tahoe!

Talk about impulsive…I got my new boots and bindings for my snowboard this week, and I *Really* want to try them out. So, rather than go to Yosemite for 2 days (whilst in CA), Alyssa and I are driving to Lake Tahoe and boarding at Heavenly Resort. We couldn’t resist the price — $220 for [...]

A beautiful day

Very fun weekend! Went to Clarion U for Alyssa’s Master’s Swimteam Championships. I’ve been a spectator the past 3 years but next year I promised I’d be swimming!
Tomorrow is the first game of Kickball for our kickball league. I hope my coordination has improved over the past few years….

Working with SATA and RAID

Five years ago, most editing stations used SCSI hard drives. SCSI drives are extremely fast and designed to be run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Their speed and reliability made them a perfect fit for anyone who works with a lot of data, especially video editors. The biggest drawback to SCSI, however, [...]

Holding Steady So Far…

Well its Wednesday, and I’ve done fairly well on my diet thus far. I had a little gorge attack last night when I had a 2nd helping of pasta late at night, but other than that, I’ve been measuring all my food and only eating when I’m hungry.
Tonight we’re going to Grandma’s house, and picking [...]
