Alyssa and I ran the Pittsburgh half marathon yesterday. Holy cow are we sore today! I finished in 2:19:14, and Alyssa in 2:26:15. Considering neither of us trained very much for it (My longest run was 7 miles, but that was 4 weeks ago, and Alyssa’s had a sinus infection for the past week), I [...]

I wish horrible things upon your head.
I am so SICK of slipping and sliding and flailing and falling every time I go for a run because some inconsiderate fool can’t take 5 minutes to shovel his/her sidewalk. There is no excuses. None. Zero. I don’t care if you’re 80 years old. Hire someone to shovel [...]

Weather.com say it feels like -13.
Eff it…I took yesterday off. I NEED to run today. No guts, no glory.
Here’s hoping I have skin left when I return.

Sigh.
I woke up this morning full of energy, ready to tackle a 5-mile run after taking yesterday off. I get up, do my situps and pushups, wander into the kitchen to get something to drink, and notice the temperature: -2. Damn. That’s cold.
Here’s hoping it goes above 6 degrees. If so, I’ll run. I’ll be [...]

Hey, that rhymed!
Anyways…I needed a change of pace today (no pun intended, haha) so I parked under the Birmingham Bridge and ran on the Southside trail for 4 miles. My main goal was to get a nice run in without hills, and you can’t get much flatter than the river trail. I feel pretty good, [...]

I stumbled across this article while google searching Steve Prefontaine (my hero!). While I would personal put Prefontaine a little higher on the list, maybe 5 or 4, I think the list is a fair one. I am wondering how the heck Frank Shorter didn’t even make it on the list…c’mon!

I guess complaining a little bit *does* pay off!
So, I posted a note in the MotionBased forum yesterday about the woes I’ve been having with my Garmin ForeRunner 305 watch, and how dissapointed I was in the overall progress of the MotionBased website and respective transition to Garmin Connect. Yesterday afternoon I got a reply [...]

Wow, am I MAD.
I bought a Garmin ForeRunner 305 GPS Heart Rate Monitor watch about 18 months or so ago. Before that I had been using Polar HRMs, but the 305 had been getting rave reviews. So, I switched. To the tune of $300.
First off, let me say I LOVE my ForeRunner 305. Or, at [...]

Not sure why, but my MotionBased workouts plugin has gone on the fritz. I believe it probably has something to do with the fact that I just switched to a dedicated server, and I haven’t checked to make sure CURL is turned on. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.
Incidentally, I *did* run today…can’t say that [...]

Nice, easy 2 miles today. And…my heel didn’t hurt! Much as it sucked to take almost 3 weeks off, I think it was for the best. Definitely not going to be in shape for the December marathon in NC, but at least I won’t have to worry about needing foot surgery!
